Alexandre Farto’s work inspired me to create portraits by
bringing a portrait out from the canvas itself, to do this I began the method
carving into MDF wood. I chose MDF wood as it’s manmade and therefore it has no
grains, making carving easier. First I created a portrait of Hugh Laurie on
scale 100cm X 100cm, and included charcoal over the top. Then from my own photograph of my brother, I am currently in progress of creating a much larger scaled carving.
