Adidas Redesign

When asked to design a new Adidas advertisement that included a new logo, I first looked at existing adverts, noting what was good about them so that I had more ideas when designing my own. I researched the meaning behind Adidas and its aim. I discovered that a major part of Adidas is the 3 stripes, so I knew my logo needed to include them. I also found that the best Adidas logos are all reversible in colour, so I took that into major consideration when designing my new logo.

Mark Powell Artist Research

Mark Powell only used Biro pen on old envelopes, so I displayed my research on a large hand made envelope. My own versions of his work are circled.

MDF carvings

Alexandre Farto’s work inspired me to create portraits by bringing a portrait out from the canvas itself, to do this I began the method carving into MDF wood. I chose MDF wood as it’s manmade and therefore it has no grains, making carving easier. First I created a portrait of Hugh Laurie on scale 100cm X 100cm, and included charcoal over the top. Then from my own photograph of my brother, I am currently in progress of creating a much larger scaled carving.

Graphic design

When given the project brief to design suitable packaging for a sports watch, I considered many things such as suitable typography, existing packaging and their faults, colour, and design ideas to decorate the packaging with. As it was a sports watch, I wanted little sporting pictograms. So I looked at existing ones already and made some of my own pinching ideas and using current ones for inspiration. Here I looked at what colours best suited my pictures and what sports are the most common.

During this year in art I based my topic on the theme “ruins”. My year began with the basic idea that comes from the word ruins, such as ancient buildings and castles etc. But as I explored the actual word I came across much more than just buildings, what I discovered sparked a flame; Ruins don’t just have to just be about buildings, what if a person was supposedly “ruined”? This led into a series of portrait studies focusing on ruination of the sole or personality, this included drawings of people screaming or crying, or scribbled art.
